Mysore: The Mysore Royal family scion though died of a heart attack, he had always worried about his obesity during his lifetime Wadiyar who suffered from obesity which was a ‘hereditary and genetic’ issue, was extremely conscious of his excess weight and went under the knife twice for cosmetic reasons, says his family doctor of 35 years.
Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar(60) had undergone two painful liposuction surgeries, against the advice of his family doctor of 35 years.The only son of Maharaja Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar was the last heir in the Dynasty. A member of parliament, he had reclaimed the post of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) president just last week.
Wadiyar used to frequently discuss his obesity issue with his doctors, and though they advised him to stay away from liposuction, he still opted for the surgery on two occasions. His first surgery was done in 2009 and the second just few months ago.
Reportedly Dr Ramana Rao, senior consultant, physician and cardiologist said, “Wadiyar was very conscious about his weight that he tried everything available to bring it down. His obesity was due to a hereditary and genetic issue. He was careful about his diet and spent a lot of time exercising.”
“Wadiyar, who weighed 120 kg the first time he underwent liposuction in 2009, had previously tried to reduce his weight with regular exercise, yoga, a vegetarian diet, and by abstaining from alcohol. After sweating it out on treadmill and cutting down on fatty foods, he shed about 25 kg, but he decided it wasn’t enough and opted to go under the knife. In an operation that lasted eight hours, doctors removed around 10 kg of fat from his body”, he informed.
Rao said, “A couple of months ago, he decided to have a second liposuction surgery, similar to one that he had in 2009. We were all strongly against it. We didn’t want him to go through the painful procedure again. Moreover, it had its own ill-effects. But it was his decision.”
It is learnt that the Maharaja was brought to Vikram Hospital on Tuesday by his sister, niece and nephew, as he had collapsed after lunch.The doctors tried to revive him for close to an hour but failed.
