Mysuru: Villagers who were provided pest-infested rice forcefully shut down a ration store here on Thursday following which a protest was held.
The incident took place in Hunsur Taluk in CM Siddaramaiah’s home district. Worms were found in the rice provided by the government for ration card holders.

The rice, even though known to be pest-infested, was distributed to the Anthodaya and BPL card holders by the officials. Enraged over this villagers stormed into the ration shop and locked it.

Food and Civil Supplies Corporation official Shivaswamy clarified and assured the people to take action in this regard.

“The rice was distributed from T Narasipura Taluk to 150 ration shops in the taluk. Worms have been found in the rice distributed in Aswalu Mookanahalli village and action will be taken against this very soon”, he said.
