Mysuru: Caste census is vital in an unscientific democratic set up like India, opined V Srinivasaprasad Revenue and District in charge minister.

He was speaking after inaugurating the seminar on Socio- economic census organised by Samana Samaja Vedike at Rani Bahadur auditorium.
He said that caste census is a sensitive issue and there is need to take up census based on caste and the socio economic background of the people of every cadre mainly because our society is stuck up with the stigma of Caste. Our society still has the mind-set where people are identified through their job and their place in society, by their caste tag. The attitude of “Caste at Birth” is still prevalent and has been a hindrance to the growth of some sections in the society.
Further he said that our country is said to be Social Democracy where our constitution upholds the theory of “All are equal before Law” and provides Justice, Equality, and Liberty to all. But unfortunately, many of the elite class and heads of Mutts are still ignorant of this. Caste has spread like cancer in the country but to achieve the vision of Dr B R Ambedkar, Father of Our Constitution, caste census plays a great role. The issue of caste system is ever debatable and our country is still on the verge of understanding the nuances of the issue and discussion on these issues should should strive in making a casteless society.
