Mysuru: As University of Mysore (UoM) successfully conducted KSET examination three times, University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved UoM as the agency for conducting KSET examination for three more years, said P Prakash, Additional Secretary, University Grants Commission, New Delhi.

Delivering the keynote address during the one day workshop on ‘The Role of Universities and Colleges in Higher Education’ organized by College Development Council, UOM at Vijnana Bhavan in Manasagangotri here on Tuesday he said, “University of Mysore is really doing well for higher education. Hundreds years back the University which was started with just four colleges has grown very well. Today more than 200 colleges are affiliated to it. UoM which is recognized as potential of excellence is marching forward. UGC started with just 25 universities with nearly 500 colleges across the country, but today 802 Universities with more than 36,300 colleges have affiliated to UGC. The approval to conduct KSET examination for three more years will be sent to UoM at the earliest”.

“Higher Education is at cross roads because on one hand we have resource crunch and on the other we have mismatch between demand and supply. If we would have software to change the mindset of the people, I would be the first person not only to purchase, but also distribute that software so that we would change the mindset of the people. Due to lack of human capital and infrastructure, in my career, I have seen that though we make a beginning to break this ice, somehow we are not able to achieve,” he said.

By 2025, India will be the youngest country with average age of 25-30 years

“By 2025, India will be largest demographic dividend nation of the world. Due to lack of quality education, just 23 per cent of technical education graduates have got jobs. While it comes to non-technical graduates, it is just 15 per cent. There are 860 management institutions in the country. Surprisingly 7 to 8 per cent of them get employed. Every fourth graduate in the world is an Indian,” said Prakash.

To enhance quality education, need based curricula is need of the hour

Prakash also mentioned that many colleges have not changed their curriculum even after many years. “Need based curriculum is the need of the hour, hence keeping the requirement of the society and country in mind, the college should come out with the curriculum. Apart from this, teachers should also make use of software technology for the betterment of education,” added Prakash.

Open account under Public Financial Management System

“Many colleges complain that they are not receiving proper grants and some colleges complain that grants are getting delayed. The principals for the colleges should get update about PFMS. If the college has got PFMS account, they will receive grants on time.
