Mysuru: Members of state sugar cane growers association took out a two day jatha ‘aathmahathye thadege raithara nadige halliya kadege’ ( farmers walk to villages to prevent suicide) here at Gandhi circle on Monday.

The jatha was inagurated by physically disabled (without both hands) successful farmer Nanjundaiah.
Speaking at the occasion, President of state Sugarcane Growers Association Kuruburu Shanthakumat said, “Farmers’ suicide is a huge loss to country. Central and state government should consider the issue seriously. Bogus statements by political leaders on farmers suicide should be stopped. For the benefit of farmers, govt should bring Dr Swamynathans report into action “
The jatha starting from here will reach the house of the farmer who who committed suicide recently at Ganadahosuru in Pandavapura taluk to condole him. Amidst the jatha various villages will be visited to meet farmers to bring awareness against suicide, he added.
Members including Atthihalli Devaraj, Bannur Narayan, R Krishnegowda and others were present.
