Mysuru: Marking the 29th death anniversary of former deputy Prime Minister Dr. Babu Jagajeevanram, who is considered as one of the key instruments of the green revolution, the District Administration paid a floral tribute to his statue situated in front of the railway station here on Monday.

Deputy Commissioner C Shikha, Mayor R Lingappa, Safayi Karmachari Commission National President Kagalawadi Shivanna, Police Commissioner B Dayananda, DCP Dr H T Shekhar, MUDA Commissioner S Palaiah, MUDA President K R Mohan Kumar, MCC Commissioner C G Betsurmath, District Social Welfare Officer Prakash, Department of Backward Class Welfare Officer G S Somashekhar, Women and Child Welfare Officer K Radha and MP Prathap Simha took part in the event.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Shikha spoke about the various contributions of Jagajeevanram towards the agriculture sector. “During his tenure between 1967 and 1970 as the Union minister for food and agriculture, Dr Babu Jagajeevanram focused on development of the agriculture sector in the country. He encouraged farmers to produce more food grains by using advanced technology. He was one of the key instruments of leading green revolution successfully at that period”, she said.
Mayor R Lingappa and SKC president Kagalawadi Shivanna lauded Babu Jagajeevanram’s contribution towards green revolution and the challenging decisions he made during his tenure as the Union Minister for Defence.
