Mysuru: An ardent fan of Sandalwood actor Ambareesh climbed a coconut tree after being harrassed by his wife in Saraswathipuram on Saturday, April 2.
Venkatesh is the man who climbed a huge coconut tree at Saraswathipuram park and threatened to commit suicide. He alleged that he has been harrassed by his wife for several months and also she has taken away all his property documents.

“I am frustrated being harassed by my wife. She along with her family has attempted to kill me.” he alleged.

The police were trying to convince and bring him down. People from the area gathered at the spot to get a glimpse of the man. The police had also called his wife to the spot to persuade him to get down from the tree. But the efforts made by the police had gone in vain as the man refused to get down.

It was almost 8 hours on the tree when his sister Puttamahadevamma successfully convinced him to come down. He was later taken to the police station, booked under Section 92 of the Karnataka Police Act for creating public nuisance and then let off with a warning.

Surprisingly, earlier on March 18, 1993, Venkatesh had climbed a tree after assulting a man fearing that he would be arrested. On that day, he had threatened not to climb down unless actor Ambareesh comes to the spot. Finally, Ambareesh had to come to the spot and persuade him to climb down. Ambareesh had also given him Rs 500, locals said.

Since that incident took place, Venkatesh was known as Coconut tree Venkatesh, fan of Ambareesh.

However, his wife Susheela refuted all the allegations and said, “I have not harrassed him. Even the property documents are in his name. He has assaulted me several times. We will sit and resolve all the differences if he comes down”, she said.
