Mysore : Thieves who broke into a textile shop named Rangoli  on the Udayaravi Road in Kuvempunagar, have stolen Rs 9 lakh  cash.

It is learnt, the thieves gained entry into the  shop through the AC ventilator. The Rangoli Showroom owned by Lakshman of Rajasthan origin has been functioning  in the area since 14 year and a was a popular textile outlet. If Lakshman’s  brother Sohan Purohit used to manage the business every day, it was his brother Suresh Kumar who was in-charge since 15 days as the former had been to Mumbai  to get stock.

It is learnt, Sohan had kept cash accrued out of sales during the past 15 days in the shop itself instead of depositing it in the bank. The shopkeeper said the cash of Rs 9 lakh was kept in a kit bag in the shop before locking.

Sources said the thieves who were possibly aware of this had broken open the ventilator to enter the shop and escape with only the kit bag giving room for doubts.
There were around 24 workers in the shop including sales girls.Though the shop is fitted with CC Cameras the same are switched off  while closing the shop.

The theft came to light in the morning when the shop was opened. City Police Commissioner Dr MA Saleem, DCP M Mahadevaiah, ACP BT Kavitha, Kuvempunagar Inspector KN Yashwanth Kumar and other police officials visited the spot. Investigations are underway.
