Mysuru: Teresian College which stood first in five events emerged as the overall champion in the University of Mysore inter-zonal Women’s games held at GFGC Kyathnalli in Pandavapura Taluk here on Tuesday. This is for the 34th time that Teresian College has emerged as overall champion in the UoM inter zonal women’s games.
Among 14 different events organised as part of the inter zonal games, Teresian College emerged as winners in Basketball, Volleyball, Hockey, Kabbadi and Handball while it stood second in softball and pocketed overall 31 points to emerge as overall champions followed by Post Graduate Sports Council, Manasa Gangotri with 22 points and SBRR Mahajana First Grade College with 18 points who stood second and third respectively. PGSC stood first in Softball and managed to emerge second in Throwball, Kabbadi and Hockey while Mahajana College emerged as victor in Table Tennis, Tennis and Badminton. St. Joseph’s College, Hassan who came out with an impressive march past was adjudged best.
Melkote MLA K S Puttanaiah who distributed the prizes to the winners called upon the government to allocate more funds. “Government should encourage sports. If this is done, definitely people going to hospital can be avoided”, added Puttanaiah who encouraged the participants by awarding special prizes in each event.
