Mysuru: “The Teaching profession is the only profession which produces professionals for the other professions” said Prof. S N Hegde, former Vice Chancellor, University of Mysore after inaugurating the UGC assisted three day orientation programme on competence building initiatives organised by the JSS Women’s College.

He said, “autonomous colleges should think of novel ways and methods, regardless of what University sets out to do. Intellectual excellence cannot be achieved without the existence of Public Private Partnership (PPP). The government has shown less interest in investing in higher education, and that is why the word ‘quality education’ has gone missing”.
Appreciating the JSS Institutions initiative to come up with a staff training centre at Suttur to elevate the faculty’s capabilities, he said, “teaching is a profession that creates and fosters all other professions, and there is a need for the continuous orientation of teachers. Today we need to think of a metamorphosis to be called as ‘developed’ country, as distinct from ‘developing’. To address this a teacher must create lifelong learners, he should introspect himself and proceed”
Further he said that like every other disease, HIV also has life but not living. Even in society we see many parasites exploiting the innocent. The fear of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has a hold on our education but it cannot impart quality education. Even though students get information through Internet they must be guided by teachers who are proactive and in turn the teachers must also be responsible to the students first rather than to the management.
