Mysore : Sugarcane growers staged a protest in front of the residence of District in-charge Minister V Srinivas Prasad on January 13, Monday   charging the government of doing injustice to the growers by succumbing to pressure from sugar factory owners while fixing sugarcane prices.

The growers who gathered  in large numbers  near the residence of the minister, shouted slogans against the state government. The protest was led by  Kurubur Shanthakumar, President of the State Sugarcane Growers Association.

Addressing the protestors, he said the  apathy of the district ministers towards the cause of the growers revealed the government’s stance which he  was against the sugarcane growers.

He alleged that the Bannari sugar factory has failed to  adhere to the government order of fixing the price of Rs2650 per tonne two months ago. The growers were getting just Rs 2400  he said.

He urged the government to immediately intervene and ensure justice to the  growers.

A grower named Mallesh from Kodnalli village fell ill during the protest. He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital.
