Mysore:Last years Mysore Dasara saw several NCC cadets assisting the cops in regulating traffic at various signal points in the cultural city. This Dasara, many more students are joining in; not to regulate traffic but to be guides to tourists visiting the city for the world famous Mysore Dasara.
Every year there is a huge influx of tourists during Dasara festivities. The tourist flow in fact does not reduce even until November. Students have now donned the new role of tourist guides keeping in mind the increasing number of tourists visiting the city.
Info Centres:A total of 16 information centres have been opened in the city to furnish information about the Dasara programmes and also regarding the places of tourist importance in and around Mysore. Students of the Mysore Tourism College, manage these centres and offer all information sought by tourists.
Students undergoing tourism courses are inducted into these information centres as tourism members. Apart from furnishing information to tourists, they also hand over informative booklets and also handouts on the Dasara programmes to the tourists, free of cost.
Foreign students to assist foreign tourists :
Students from across the world are undergoing different courses in various educational institutions in the city. Some of these foreign students themselves have been appointed in the Information Centres to answer the calls of foreign tourists received by the Control Room at the DC office seeking information. These foreign students will guide the foreign tourists regarding Dasara and various programmes, in their own language.
Location: Tourist information centres are operating at St Philomena Church, Chamarajendra Zoo, Amba Vilasa Palace Varaha Gate, Balarama Dwara, Rural bus terminus, Chamundi Hills, Airport, Railway station, Dasara exhibition grounds, Somanathapura, Srirangapatna, Nanjanagud,Talakadu, Hunasur and T Narasipura.
