Mysuru: Students belonging to women’s old PG hostel, University of Mysuru, staged a protest against the hostel authorities in front of the hostel gate here on Thursday alleging the authority of depriving them of even basic facilities.

The students said that on Tuesday night, a few students suffered from diarrhea due to lack of quality food in the hostel. It repeated on Wednesday night. Five students who started vomiting after consuming food in the hostel were rushed to University Health Centre where they were admitted. Doctors have confirmed that the students suffered from food poisoning. Eight more students suffering from diarrhea are in the hostel.
Speaking to newskarnataka.com, a student from the hostel said that the hostel does not even have clean drinking water. “Even food provided in the hostel is of poor quality. Apart from this, there is lack of security in the hostel. Even though the issues were brought to the notice of the warden, the pleas have fallen to deaf ears,” said the student. There are over 200 students residing in this hostel.
University authorities have promised action and also said that till the canteen contract is given to some other contractor, food would be provided to the students from nearby hotel. Only after these assurances, the students called back the stir.
