Mysuru: The Mysuru District Street Vendors Association staged a massive protest in front of the Mysuru city corporation on Wednesday.

The protest comes on the heels of the MCC forcibly evicting street food vendors off their regular spots in the  city. The raid began on May 15 and has been on a mission to get street vendors out of the footpaths citing traffic and health concerns.

Vice President of Mysuru District Street Vendors Association Rame Gowda said, “We met with the MCC Commissioner and Mayor, but there has been no response from them. The Mysuru City Corporation is not giving the right answers nor did they have a right to evict us without warning.”

“The state and central government has given us the permission to operate on road sides and we followed all the guidelines of the Food and Safety Standards act of 2006,” he added. Despite having a law to protect the street vendors, and the MCC was wrong in evacuating the vendors without a warning.

The vendors association also alleged that the authorities had threatened them about continuing their  protest about the issue. Treasurer of the association R Guruswamy, Legal Adviser GK Joshi and other members of the association were present during the high tension protest.
