State film awards to be conferred on Sandalwood stars at Mysuru on Feb 28

Mysuru: The Karnataka State Kannada Film Awards function is scheduled to be held at the city’s Maharaja’s College Ground on February 28 from 6 pm. In a move to provide an opportunity for rural cultural teams to exhibit their talents in front of a large audience and to give a traditional touch to the award function, the Karnataka Information and Public Relations Department has provided the opportunity for teams across the state. Teams from Shivamogga, Kalburgi, Tumkur and other parts of the state will perform a variety of entertainment events at function. Earlier, authorities had provided opportunities for teams only from state’s capital.

Teams will exhibit eight cultural events, including, folk lore dance, and songs. In addition to add more colours to the event, authorities have provided a platform for youth teams and film personalities too will perform dance and cultural concerts, said Department of Information and Public Relations director R Vishukumar.

On the occasion, 60 plus Kannada film artistes will receive awards and Chief minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the function. What has made the heritage city proud is, six-artistes, including, Darshan, child artiste Niveditha, who are related to Mysuru, will be honoured with the state award. A majority of Sandalwood artistes will be present, and public representatives of the district, including, MP, MLAs, Ministers will attend the programme.

It’s after two-decades, that a Film Award function will be hosted in the city. In 1992, during the tenure of S Bangarappa as Chief minister of the state, the city hosted this prestigious film award function. This time, the authorities’ picked Mysuru city for the ceremony for two reasons, one for its ‘Heritage tag’ and the other is, it is native place of the CM, said Vishukumar.

The authorities are expecting a large crowd. Nearly 25,000 film enthusiasts may take part in  the grand ceremony. The department has prepared passes and printed 3,000 invitations. The passes are available at District Information and Public Relations Office located at Dhanvanthri Road
