Mysuru: Accusing the State government of totally neglecting specially abled sportspersons, around 30 athletes tried to consume poison in the presence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today.

The incident took place at the senate hall of Mysuru university ‘Manasa Ganghothri’ while honouring sportspersons for their exemplary achievement in the field of sport for the year 2014. The awards ‘Ekalavya Life time Achievement Award’ and ‘Kreeda Rathna’ award are instituted by the youth and sports ministry of Government of Karnataka. These are equivalent to Dhronacharya and Arjuna awards presented by the Central government. These awards are given every year to best performing sportspersons for their contribution and achievement in the field of sports.

After honouring the sportsmen the chief minister was on the verge of leaving the venue. Around 30 specially abled sportspersons surrounded him and with united voice accused the sports minister Abhayachandra Jain of completely ignoring their pleas. When CM moved further quietly without responding, all of them rushed ahead of him and opened the bottles containing poison.

In the meantime, the policemen present at the venue pulled all the bottles from the hands of the aggrieved sportspersons and took them into their possession.
