Shivaji is not the asset of Marathas alone: BJP leader

Mysore : “Belgavi belongs to Karnataka and we cannot let it at any cost. The Maharashtra Ekikarana Samithi’s efforts to include Belgavi border is Maharashtra is unwelcome,” said Maruthi Rao, District BJP President and former MLA.

He was speaking after inaugurating the 387th  birth anniversary of Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj at the Vishweshwaraiah Hall  of Institute of Engineers on February 19, Wednesday under the aegis of the District Administration, Kannada and Culture Department and Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharajara Jayanthyutsava Samithi.

Rao further said Marathi speaking people in Karnataka are children of Kannadambe and added Kannadigas are opposed to the border dispute. Continuing, he said Shivaji is not the asset of Marathas alone but he belongs to the entire nation. He said there are plans to set up a statue of Shivaji in Mysore and urged the DC to provide RS 10 lakh grant for the purpose.

A colourful procession with a vehicle carrying the portrait of Shivaji  and participated by several art troupes was earlier inaugurated by Budhi Yogananda Swamiji of Ramakrishna Mutt.

Adishanker Mutt’s  Ganjam Swamiji, Sa. Ra. Mahesh, Legislator, Sunil, Corporator and others were present.
