Senior BJP leader M Mahadevu no more

Mysuru: Former BJP minister, and senior leader,  M Mahadevu(77)  passed away at a private hospital in the city following a brief illness.
MahadeveSon of late Goudike Madappa and late Siddamma from Hemmaragala village in Nanjangud taluk, Mahadevu was born in 1938 on September 2. He completed his primary education in Hemmaragala and Nanjangud government primary Boys medal school and Junior college. In 1962 he contested for the first time for Taluk board elections, even though he lost he continued in the political field. In 1972 he won in the TAPMS elections and served as the president for five years. He also served in the co-operative field specially in DCC and as Director of Apeksha Bank for several years.

In 1983, for the first time he contested from Congress and defeated late Narsegowda with 44 votes and entered Vidhana Sabha. In 1989 and 1999 he contested on a  Congress ticket and was elected thrice to Vidhana Sabha. He served as Chamarajnagar incharge minister as well.

In 2004, in the Vidhana Sabha elections he lost to D T Jayakumar. In 2008 he joined BJP, contested from Chamarajanagar constituency but lost in the election.  In 2013 he joined JDS and actively participated in the Muncipal as well as Vidhana Sabha elections. In 2014 he again joined BJP in the Lok Sabha election under the leadership of Ananth Kumar.

The funeral will be held in Nanjangud today.
