Mysuru: The Search Committee formed in January to appoint a Vice-Chancellor to University of Mysore is expected to meet for the first time on April 28 or on 29. If this meeting goes on as per schedule, then the University may soon get a permanent Vice-Chancellor.
The office of the Vice-Chancellor fell vacant after former VC K S Rangappa demitted the office on January 10 and since then the Search Committee has not even met once.
VTU Vice-Chancellor Kincha, who is heading the Committee, refuting to make any comments on the reasons playing behind the delay said that only the Minister concerned may be able to explain about the reasons.
Earlier, Deputy Secretary, Higher Education Somkashekar had said that the Committee would meet during first week of April, but the same could not fall in place.
Due to lack of appointment of permanent Vice Chancellor to University of Mysore various major works are getting delayed. Recently Rajanna, registrar of UOM during media briefing also mentioned that till the permanent Vice Chancellor is appointed, the process for recruitment for permanent teaching and non-teaching posts will not be taken up. For renewing accreditation for UOM, NAAC will be visiting UOM on January 3, three months prior to their visit various accreditation related tasks need to be completed, if appointment of Vice Chancellor is delayed further, there are possibilities that UOM may face problem with the NAAC.
