Scam in Panchayath, documents destroyed fearing probe

Mysuru: Following allegations of irregularities at Ramathunga gram panchayath, documents were burnt by the miscreants. It is learnt that it was done with a motive to protect themselves from the probe team which was supposed to visit the panchayath following a complaint by the member.
The national flag too was burnt along with the documents related to schemes in which irregularities were found.

A gram panchayath member had extracted information through RTI about the irregularities in the funds meant for several schemes worth one crore and twenty-two lakhs from 1995 to 2016. He had complained to the district panchayath probe team.

The probe team was supposed to arrive for investigation on August 24. Fearing probe, the miscreants entered the panchayath and burnt the documents. The PDO’s complaint to police states that the documents were burnt in accidental fire. The stand of the PDO has sparked suspicion as President of the Panchayath has complained to Piriyapattana police that PDO and other officials have purposely destroyed the documents fearing probe.
