Mysuru: In the wake of a study by New Delhi-based Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), claiming presence of carcinogenic preservatives in breads, 50 percent of sale of bread has come down in city.

Speaking about the same C Narayanagowda, President, Mysuru Hotel Owners Association said that the recent reports in media affected the bakery business across the city and 50 percent of the sale of breads has come down. “We have carried out sampling and testing of breads and the reports are fine. None of the bakers use either of the two harmful carcinogenic chemicals – potassium bromate and potassium iodate. These chemicals might be used by big bakeries to increase shelf life of their products which is not the same,” he said adding that bread is being consumed across the world for over more than 200 years.
