Mysore: In Mysore dengue cases are increasing as it has recorded the highest number of suspected cases in the state since January this year. It is also next only to Bengalore city in terms of positive dengue cases. Two of the eight people who have succumbed to the disease in the state are from Mysore as well.
So far of the 1282 cases of suspected dengue in the district since the beginning of the year 284 have tested positive. And as many as 132 of them have been confirmed.
This is a marked increase from 2012, when there were just 13 positive cases of dengue and two deaths in the district, and even more so from 2011, when only two dengue cases were confirmed in the district.
Fortunately with the improved water levels at the Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) reservoir, the water situation in the city has improved and breeding sources of mosquitoes are being washed away, which in turn could lower the number of dengue cases in the city, said health department sources.
