Mysuru: As part of Dasara celebration, apart from traditional Nada Kusthi, the Dasara wrestling committee will also be conducting All India and State level wrestling competition for both men and women at D Devaraj Urs multipurpose stadium from October 1 to 6. The organizing committee is planning to invite Rio Olympic bronze medalist Sakshi Malik, Yogeshwar Dutt or Sushil Kumar.
During the six day competition, more than 800 wrestlers from across the country including 400 wrestlers for Nada Kusthi will be seen in action. The committee has started inviting acclaimed wrestlers to boost the image of the event which would also popularize Dasara events.
The 34th state level men’s wrestling championship which includes Dasara Kesari, Dasara Kumar and Dasara Kanteerava will be held on October 2 and 3 while fourth state level women’s wrestling championship will be held on October 4. More than 200 wrestlers including 150 male wrestlers will be seen in action in the state level competition.
The All India National Invitational Wrestling championship for both men and women will be held on October 5 and 6. Over 150 wrestlers in both male and female categories will be seen in action in the national championship.
D Ravi Kumar, Secretary, Dasara Wrestling Committee said, “Last year due to drought situation across the state, it was a low key Dasara. We had conducted only Nada Kushti wrestling competition. But this year, we have decided to conduct national and state level wrestling competition. We have planned to invite Rio Olympic bronze medalist Sakshi Malik, Yogeshwar Dutt or Sushil Kumar. Apart from any one of the trio, we have also planned to invite Sakshi Malik’s coach. To give more exposure to wrestlers, we are going all out in our effort to invite renowned wrestlers from not only across the state but also from the country.”
