Bengaluru: Cases of dog thefts and missing dogs is increasing day by day in Bengaluru. In an incident that occurred last week, a two-month old Labrador puppy was abducted by two local goons in Hongasandra when the dog owner was out for a walk. The dog owner to his distress of losing his pet was denied complaint by the local police too.

Sumiran Rai (21), a medical student hailing from West Bengal had purchased the lab for Rs 12,000. He named it Maya and was extremely attached to it. On last Thursday night, Rai and his friend were out for a walk with the pup. Soon after, three local goons waylaid them, threatened and kidnapped the pup. Though Rai and his friend chased the goons, they managed to escape with the help of a bike that was parked nearby.

Soon Rao rushed to Bommanahalli police station, but the cops allegedly denied to register the complaint and file an FIR. They even asked Rai to trace the goons himself and later they would take action. Even the locals, who knew the suspects, did not come forward to give statement.

Bangalore Mirror quoted Rai saying, “Some local residents and shopkeepers saw the entire incident. I immediately rushed to Bommanahalli police station seeking help. The police came with us to the spot, but by then the shops were closed and the eyewitnesses had gone. Later I found out that two of them were local goons, Prabha and Aiyyappa and almost everyone knew them.”

“I rushed to the police with their names, but the cops started laughing at me. It has been almost five days, but the police are refusing to register the complaint. Now the police have asked us to find the address of the accused. After my dog was taken away, I have been visiting the police station every day,” Sumiran added.

But Bommanahalli police claimed that nobody had approached the station regarding the incident. “The telephone numbers of the local inspector and sub-inspectors are made public to local residents. The complainant can easily approach them if he was turned away by men at the station and get his complaint lodged and FIR registered,” said Bommanahalli police.
