Mysuru: The ongoing renovation work of Lansdowne building will be completed by August next year. It is one among the famous landmark structures in the city.
A portion of the heritage building which collapsed in the year 2012 claiming the lives of four people, is being restored by a Mumbai-based private company with the consultation of Indian Heritage Cities Network Foundation.
The restoration work commenced from February at a cost of Rs 6 crore, which was released from the Chief Minister’s special grant of Rs 100 crore to the city. The building was constructed in the year 1892 to mark the visit of British viceroy Lansdowne and his wife to Mysuru. To retain the old charm, materials like lime mortar which was used to construct the original building has been used.
Speaking to NewsKarnataka, Mysuru City Corporation, Commissioner, C G Betsurmath said that the restoration is taken up without harming the heritage designs. Out of Rs 6 crore, Rs 3 crore will be utilized for the restoration of the structure and the remaining Rs 3 crore has been allotted for civic works.
After a portion of the building collapsed, the shops were shifted to the opposite direction of the structure. Once the building restoration is completed, tenants will come back to their respective places.
