Mysuru: Co?ntract workers of Mysuru Zoo who ?have been protesting since Wednesday submitted a memorandum to the revenue and district in-charge minister V Srinivas Prasad here on Thursday, and requested him to reinstate the jobs of the 46 contract employees of zoo, who had lost their jobs.
The protesters met the minister along with chairperson of Zoo authority Rehana Bhanu.
One of the protesters said that there are several conditions imposed by the authorities which are employee unfriendly. Though we are staging protest from two days, no Zoo official has responded to it. Out of 86 employees 40 members have signed to the contract agreement and 46 questioned it.
One of the protesters there said that they were employed on the basis of a contract for a span of one month. They were made to sign the agreement which included 10 points and they were promised all the benefits from the government. The agreement said that the workers should not speak to the media persons, should not ask for a permanent job and if any authorized Hospitals say that they are ill, they are not qualified to continue the job. Even with all the complications we agreed with the only hope of getting benefits. But during our tenure we were ignored and now they are asking us to sign the old agreement in which we are not interested.
Zoo authorities asked them to sign the agreement and when they refused to sign, the authorities told them not to continue work as the last contract they had signed culminated on 31 March.
