Mysuru: “It is the health sector professionals that play a vital role in saving citizens and also at the borders of the country. They play an important role when soldiers are injured,” said MCC Mayor R Lingappa.

He was speaking in the inaugural of two day first aid training workshop organised by Indian Red Cross Institution, Mysuru chapter here on its premises on Friday.

Inaugurating the programme he said, “It is necessary for the students to be punctual and to respond at the situations. At any circumstance, health sector professionals must quickly respond to the situation.”

Doctor Dr Lakshmi Devi who conducted the workshop sessions said, “It is necessary for the citizens to learn how to give first aid in order handle unexpected situations. In most of the accident cases in country, people have died as bleeding wasn’t stopped.

But on many occasions we can save some lives if we are aware of how to provide first aid. There is demand of a bottle of blood for every 2 seconds. Most people donate blood but don’t know how their blood is being used.”

When asked about why students from other streams weren’t being given training in First Aid, Red Cross member Ravishankar said, “These are revision classes in First Aid because colleges have already paid their fees for the course.”

“From the next academic year, we are planning to go to non health education institutions and create awareness about first aid procedures” he added.

Dr Kamala Raman, Vice president, Jayalaksmi Marichamaiah, secretary, Vanaja, assistant secretary, Ananda, state Red Cross member and many others were present.
