Mangaluru: The second JMFC court, Mangaluru judge Roopashri has ordered a 32-year old man to pay compensation of Rs 15 lakh to his 27-year old wife for mentally harassing her.

According to the reports, the wife has not sought divorce from her husband. In the complaint, the woman had sought compensation under Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005. She complained of mental torture and emotional distress, with seeking divorce from her husband.

The Judge, after hearing both sides of the arguments, directed the man to pay a compensation of Rs 15 lakh for being guilty of domestic violence and mental torture. Besides, the judge ordered to pay monthly compensation of Rs 12,000 per month to his wife. In addition to it, the court instructed him to return gold ornaments to her.

Advocate M.P Noronha had argued on behalf of the woman.
