Mysuru: It was a record turnout for the longest chain link Yoga rehearsal organised by the district administration at Mysuru Palace premise here on Saturday. More than 9000 participants got together to perform chain link Yoga with which the district administration is aiming to create a Guinness record by getting together more than 5000 people. It was perfect fine tuning before the final event which is scheduled on June 19.

The students along with dedicated teachers started coming to the venue from 8 am with a lot of enthusiasm though the rehearsal started at 10.25 am. Teachers, senior Yoga instructors, officials and sports hostel girls who looked into participants’ mistakes went all out in their efforts to ensure that they performed chain link Yoga which includes interlocking of legs to perfection.
For the apt performance by nearly 6000 students, the organisers had planned 15 circles back to back. On direction and instruction from senior Yoga practitioner Ranganath nearly 9000 students who had come from nearly 50 institutions took part in three different colourful rehearsals by performing four different Asanas- “Veerabhadrasana-1” (Warrior Posture-1), “Trikonasana” (Triangle Posture), “Veerabhadrasana-2” (Warrior Posture-2) and “Prasaritha Padottanasana” (Wide Legged Forward Bend Posture). Though there were few mistakes during the first rehearsal, the participants with the help of their respective teachers, Yoga instructors and sports hostel girls managed to rectify their mistakes and performed well in the next two rehearsals which even saw Deputy Commissioner D Randeep who was watching the practice applauding their efforts.
Randeep said, “The turnout for the rehearsal was more than the expectation. We thought nearly 4000 will turn up for the practice but unofficially there were more than 10,000 participants and officially it was nearly 8000 participants. Going by the rehearsal, it seems they are ready for breaking the record on June 19. It is not only a promotion for Yoga but also for tourism. During the first rehearsal, there were lots of gaps. Our sports hostel girls who were looking into the mistakes rectified them and later the other two rehearsals were good. Even on June 19, we will be given three chances-first for practice and next two for performance. If we fail to do well in the second chance we can go for the third one. Once the performance starts it should be completed in 15 minutes.”
Ani Joseph, teacher from Kautilya School who along with few other teachers brought nearly 354 students with them said, “To be a part of this record is really a great feeling. For the past nearly 10 days we have been putting a lot of efforts. When we mentioned to students that they will also be part of the record breaking event, they were thrilled. The organisers have come out with a good preparation for the event”.
Yogitha, teacher from Jyothi Education Institute said, “It’s a good opportunity for all us to be part of the Guinness record. Apart from being an annual event, to keep good health, we have also instructed students to adopt Yoga in their daily life.” It’s the same with D C Sathish from Nataraja School and Hemalatha from Ideal Jawa Rotary School who had brought their students for the rehearsal. More than 600 students took part in the Yoga chain rehearsal and they are all confident about achieving the world record. District administration should arrange the Yoga rehearsal and performance in the early morning to avoid the direct sun rays and it may affect the kids, said school teacher Hemalatha.
Speaking after performing the rehearsal an excited S R Kavya from Christ Public school, “It was a wonderful experience in front of the Mysuru Palace. Teachers in school taught us these skills. We are eagerly waiting to perform on June 19 and want to be a part of the Guinness record team.” S Rajesh from Jyothi Education Institute who was also part of rehearsal team said, “Yoga is now centre of attraction in the cultural city. We are all united for the world record cause. I am thankful to district administration for giving us a chance to perform Yoga in the historical place.”
