Mysuru: Right wing activists backed by Sangh Parivar sprinkled cow urine in what they termed as cleansing operation at the venue today and opposed the move of rationalists, who had consumed beef at a public event in Kalamandir on June 25.
On June 25, Charuvaka social and Cultural Trust had organised a programme on food habits and individual rights at Kalamandir owned by the Department of Kannada and Culture.
After inaugurating the programme, senior writer Prof. K S Bhagawan and Prof. Mahesh Chandra Guru stressed on individual food habits and freedom for that and ate beef dishes mainly to oppose the central government’s legislation on cow slaughter.
They contended that the central government had implemented an act which infringed on the rights of citizens of the country and their dietary habits. Opposing restraint in personal diet, rationalists ate beef in the programme and their move has now snowballed into a fresh controversy.
Hindu activists backed by Sangh Parivar protested in front of the auditorium opposing the move of rationalists eating beef in public in a government building and cleaned up the area by sprinkling cow urine.
