Ranganatittu Bird Sanctuary safe from Floods

Mysore: In the past it was witnessed that the migratory birds who arrived at the Ranganatittu sanctuary during the monsoon, were washed away when Cauvery valley witnessed torrential rains that led to releasing excess water from Krishnarajasagar (KRS) dam were perished in flashfloods.


Now the forest department realized the perils on birds and marine species caused by the above situation, have taken several measures in order to protect the migratory birds that arrive to Ranganatittu bird sanctuary and also marine life.  In spite of the torrential rains during this monsoon, the bird lovers are assured of safety to all birds including that arrive here from different continents.

The barriers were heightened along the lake that has a boating centre and a jetty.  The boulders are laid in different stretches of lake that serves as safe heaven to migratory birds in case of floods.

The migratory birds from all over the country and other continents are arriving at the sanctuary as the torrential rains are lashing the Malnad region.
