
Mysuru: Mysuru district which was ranked 17 in the II PU exam results is going all out in its effort to make sure it is in the top 10 this year. The subject teachers will be held responsible and promotion including time-bound promotion will be held up if the overall pass percentage in their respective subject is less than 40 percent, the district administration has decided.
In 2016, Mysuru stood in the 11th slot and in 2017 it slipped to 14th rank. In 2018, though the pass percentage was 67.7 percent with an increase of 7.47 percent when compared to 2017 it slipped to 17th ranking. Though the pass percentage in commerce and science was more than 76 and 60 percent respectively, it was not the same in arts. Especially those pursing arts in Kannada medium didn’t do well. Most of the arts students didn’t do well in economics and English subjects. Keeping this in mind, Dayananda, DDPU, Mysuru conducted special classes to students and had meeting with teachers and principals. Even during Dasara vacations, the lecturers conducted special classes to students.
Speaking to Newskarnataka.com, Dayananda, DDPU, Mysuru district said, “This year, apart from giving importance to all the subjects we have given more emphasis on Economics, English- both grammar and spoken English and Accountancy subjects which we didn’t do well last year due to which our overall pass percentage suffered. Apart from this, once in three months, we are having a meeting with parents and students so that parents can also come to know what exactly their wards are doing”.
The concern subject teacher will be held responsible if the passing percentage is less than 40, he warned. “Names of the teachers will be sent to government and action will be initiated. Promotions, including time-bound promotions which are given for every 10 years, 15 years and 20 years. The promotion will be given only after performances are improved. This year nearly 40,000 students, from across the district will be appearing for the exam which will be held from March 1,” added Dayananda.
