Mysuru: The president of India Pranab Mukherjee will be visiting the city to inaugurate the centenary celebration of University of Mysore (UoM) on July 27.

As the UoM is completing 100 years of its establishment, the authorities have planned celebrations throughout the year.
Various other dignitaries including Chancellor of the varsity Vajubhai Vala will be accompanying the president at the inaugural programme. The yearlong celebrations will be inaugurated at 3pm.
Ahead of the President’s visit, Deputy Commissioner (DC) C Shikha convened a preparatory meeting with police, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) and other department officials to make necessary arrangements at DC Office on Thursday.
She urged the police department to beef up security across the city to ensure the safety of dignitaries as well as public. DC also urged authorities of National Highway (NH) 212 to conduct repair works of the road.
The Regional Transport Department (RTO) should conduct verification of the vehicle arranged to ferry the president and other dignitaries and report should be submitted to the district administration soon, she ordered.
However, she also directed Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) and Bharath Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) authorities to ensure uninterrupted service on the day. In addition, DC also ordered the health department and fire department to make the required arrangements to ensure safety.
