“Precautionary measures in place to prevent bird flu”

Mysuru: The district administration has stepped up its vigil to protect the city from Bird flu which broke out in Kerala.

Addressing a meeting Dr Pushpavathi Amarnath President Zilla Panchayath said that Mysoreans need not panic at the outbreak of H5N1 which which has hit the state of Kerala as the district administration has taken all required  precautionary measures to protect the city from Bird Flu.

“Mysuru is safe from the influence of Bird flu as the only chance that it might affect the city is through migratory birds. We have been sending samples to Bengaluru? for medical testing and nothing dangerous has been suspected. On Wednesday 18 samples were sent and they all were reported negative by the authorities” she said.

She said that Mysoreans need not worry as the district administration has strictly instructed  the authorities of Kukkarahalli, Karanji Kere, Zoo, Anganwadi workers to immediately inform if they notice mass death and they have been strictly told to take surveillance measures.

Referring to the situation in Kerala she said that Karnataka and Tamilnadu are the major exporters of Poultry to Kerala.There is only export to Kerala and nothing has been imported from there. We export 25 lakh eggs and 75,000 poultry to Kerala. The Kerala government needs 800 tons and they have only 300 tons of productivity.The Kerala government has taken measures in this regard. around 15,000 ducks were dead and more than 2 lakh ducks were culled by the government.

Speaking on the precautionary measures she said that 42 Rapid response teams have been formed which consist of  a doctor and a Police officer. A precautionary kit which consists of masks, caps and others has been acquired. Out of which 200 kits are already available.

All the check posts who will be working round the clock and vaccination, tablets,sprays will be made available, she said.
