Plastic scrap godown catches fire in Mysuru

Mysuru: Major fire broke out at a plastic wastage godown in Bannimantap at Siddique Mohalla here on Sunday. Larger damage was averted due to timely arrival of firefighting personnel. No casualties have been reported. The reason for the fire has not been ascertained.

The scrap plastic godown with capacity of more than 75 truck load of waste at Siddique Mohalla, behind a convention hall caught fire in the afternoon. Soon the firefighting personnel from Bannimantap fire station arrived and started the operation to put off the fire. Seeing the intensity of the fire more fire engines from other stations were summoned. More than 15 fire engines with over 40 fire fighting personnel took about six hours to bring fire under control and prevented the blaze from spreading onto the neighboring convention hall. Each engine took three to four trips to bring fire under control.

Due to the fire mishap, the reception which was to be held at convention hall located next to the plastic wastage building on Sunday evening was shifted to nearby choultry.

Bharath, District Fire Officer, Bannimantap Fire Station said “After lot of struggle the fire was brought under control at 7.30pm”. Eshwar Nayak, Regional Fire Officer was also present
