Mysuru: The People’s Park has been in news for a while now with various social organisations and student groups protesting against it, as it has been turned into a concrete park.

Reportedly it was said that the government has planned to build a library in this much-needed lung space in the heart of the city.

However, now this popular Park has been turned into a private bus stand! This is a blatant violation of the Karnataka Parks and Open Spaces Act which prohibits the usage.

Interestingly, even the warning board erected by the Dy. Director, Department of Public Libraries, stating that the 300×400 land belongs to them and that trespassers will be prosecuted has gone unheeded.

The Police Commissioner was unavailable for comment but the Deputy Director of Dept. of Public Libraries, Manjunath informed that during the Dasara Flower Show, private buses ferrying tourists were allowed to park in the People’s Park on request from the Police Department.

Now, even though the flower show is over, the private buses have continued to use it as a parking lot. He also said that he had informed the Police about it and was awaiting reply.
