Mysuru: Irked by the constant absence of the head teacher, the parents of the students studying at a government school at K R Nagar’s Kaval Hosur village staged a stir in a rather distinct manner.

Noticing that Head Teacher Manjunath was taking leave very frequently, the locals, most of whom were parents of the kids studying in the school locked the school on Saturday, June 3.

The protesters said that when the school re-opened after two months, the Head Teacher continued to be irregular at the school due to which the teachers and students were facing a lot of problems. “Most importantly, the mid-day meal programme has not been implemented properly in the school and the head teacher is never available to set things right,” said a parent adding that the teacher in question has lost his credibility over the years due to his negligent attitude.

Parents say that even last year the teacher had never reported to duty on time and yet he has been signing the attendance register of the school without fail. “There are only 48 students in the school and if such irresponsible behaviour of the head teacher continues then the strength of the school will slip further, bringing the school to the brink of closure,” said another parent.

The officials from the Education Department visited the protesters and gave a patient hearing to their woes. They have assured the protesters to initiate action against the teacher and also set right the situation at the earliest.
