Mysuru: Following a rise in the number of cases of dengue in the city, N R Group has taken an initiative to help those affected with vector-borne disease by organising a blood donation camp at N R House, Vani Vilasa Road for its employees. On the occasion more than 300 employees donated blood.
The camp held in association with Jeevandhara Blood Bank to save the people battling dengue, was inaugurated by Member of Parliament Pratap Simha in the presence of N R Group Chairman Guru Ranga and Director Arjun Ranga. Extending their support to the organisation’s initiatives, between 300 and 350 employees of the group donated blood, from which platelets will be extracted for the patients.
Speaking about the camp, Guru Ranga said, “The number of dengue cases are constantly increasing in the district. This vector-borne disease severely impacts health of the affected and can even prove life-threatening. To combat this, we had conducted a blood donation camp where hundreds of people from the organisation came together and supported the cause. We hope, through our initiative, we can meet the requirements for platelets in the city’s hospitals and help the patients battle this life-threatening disease.”
NR Group has also generated awareness on the need for city’s inhabitants to keep their surroundings clean and hygienic so that the virus can be stopped. It has urged residents to clear unwanted things, including broken mud pots, used tires, plastic wastes, coconut wastes and other materials that can collect water. The mosquitoes causing dengue virus, breed in the water that stagnate in overhead tanks, drums, barrels, small cups etc., which must be avoided, he added.
