Open Air Theatre renovated ahead of UoM centenary celebrations

Mysuru: “The Open Air Theatre which now has the seating capacity for nearly 10,000 people has been renovated to host centenary celebrations”, informed Vice Chancellor of Mysore University, K S Rangappa.

 K S Rangappa.Addressing a press conference at the Crawford hall, he said that Sandalwood actor Puneeth Rajkumar will attend the event along with various other actors.

It will be followed by the dance performances by 150 artistes to ten different songs. The book Annadataara Aathma Kathe-Norondu Raithara Yashogaathe penned by journalist Hamshi Prasanna Kumar will be released on the same day.”

“On July 27 President Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate the year long centenary celebrations at the Open Air Theatre. The book “An Era of Enlightenment” penned by Prof Sheikh Ali which throws light on the journey of University of Mysore will also be released.

We will also unveil a slew of events which we plan to do in the next year 100 years. Only those who have invitation cards can attend the event. The invitation cards will be distributed at an office located in the university campus. I will also appeal to all the alumnus of University Of Mysore and current students to attend the mega event,” added K S Rangappa.

K S Rangappa says that the infrastructure of the varsity will be developed on the lines of Indian Institute of science and Indian Institute of Management. To create perfect ambience for the students to achieve academically, the hostels, laboratories and buildings will be upgraded soon.

The achievers in the fields of arts, science and social science will get an award as a part of the centenary celebrations. The process of identifying people to give awards has begun. The awards in the name of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan for social science, Vishveshwaraiah for technology and C N R Rao for science will be awarded for the people who have done remarkable achievements in their respective fields, added Rangappa.

Giving information about the centenary lectures and seminars, Rangappa says, Lecturers from Nobel laureates or experts who are on par with noble laureates will deliver lecture at least once in a month for humanity, science and arts students.  The University of Mysuru will give scholarships for economically weaker students.

The VC said that the knowledge commission of Karnataka has shown interest to introduce smart classes in all the colleges which come under the purview of University of Mysore. The e-learning is gaining popularity all around the world. The knowledge commission has promised to release Rs 100 crore for the introduction of smart classes, but officially nothing is confirmed, added Rangappa.
