Hunsur: The carcass of a 7-year-old male leopard sans its head and nails were found by the residents of Sulekere Kaval in Bilikere Hobli in Hunsur Taluk.
The carcass that was floating in the well wrapped in a gunny bag for days was discovered by few villagers on Thursday July 9.

However, the Police, who rushed to the spot, could not extricate the bag from the well due to rains. When the rains subsided, the cops extricated the bag on Friday morning only to realise that the bag contained the carcass of a leopard.

They later informed officials of the Forest Department.

Hunsur Range DCF Balachandar, Range Forest Officer Mahadevaiah and their staff, who reached the spot on receiving information, inspected the bag after which Veterinarian Dr. Umashanakar and staff conducted an autopsy before cremating the leopard.

Police and Forest Officials, who have registered a case, have launched a hunt for the miscreants who severed the head of the leopard and removed its nails before stuffing it in a gunny bag and throwing it into the well.
