Mysuru: Today’s media has a paucity of writers rather than publishers opined Hariprakash Konemane.
He was speaking at ‘Interface with an editor’ held as part of “info FRAMES 2015” organised by Educational Multimedia Research Centre, DOS in Mass Communication and Journalism at Rani Bahadur auditorium.

Addressing the gathering he said, “Journalists should be activists and try to bring the issues to the people without any partial stands. Journalism is nothing but transforming information and we should step back to keep the facts and showcase a dynamic journalism for the creation of a better society. Every News house should equip its resources to meet the expectations of the society”.
Reacting to a question raised on the commercialization and lack of quality in today’s media he said that as the media is becoming so close so accessible to the people we are looking out for local journalism or citizen journalism. There is no dearth of publishers, but we lack people who give a quality news. Media is passion but it should be complimented with the right thought and execution. Without favouring right and left wing whichever prevailed we should see to it that news is conveyed without any prejudice.
Speaking on the role of media he said that since ages the media has its share when it comes to deceiving the public but follow up should be done to check the reality.
Bhargav, Film Director in a segment called ‘Interface with Cinema experts’, opined that planning, programme and timing is the key to become successful in every art. Your passion should guide you towards success. As far as commercial films are concerned I am proud to say even though they are commercial they also had the charm of art film. Film Industry is an interesting field. But we should make sure that we make films with good stories instead of looking out for hero. Your story should be your hero. Sharing his experience he said that his association with Hunasur Krishnamurthy, Dwarakish, Vishnuvardhan, Rajkumar took hm on a long journey in the industry.
The Director of ‘Lingadevaru, an art film said “there is no one definition for entertainment as it changes with the people. What seems good to one may not be the same to others. Even though I don’t agree with the parallel and mainstream media I have to go on with these concepts. Instead of making commercial films which revolve around a formula, Industry should see it as a tool to social transformation. In the world of digitlisation everyone is trying their hands at it but some underworld dons are using it to justify their acts which is the tragedy”, he stressed.
Jogi Girish Rao opined that the present film trend is making mistakes in subject selection and the future is not clear. “As the technology improves the quality of film making has come down because more number people have started movie making without any home work”, he added
“The number of Kannada films releasing in a year has crossed 200, but the quality of films is neglected as everybody wants to make money but good movies like “Naanu Avanalla…Avalu” which has a message tfor society is not given importance. People should watch and support art movies which have a message”, he said.
“Media today, has moved on to corporatisation”
“Media today threatens its own democratization and has moved on to corporatisation”, opined Prof. Manu Chakravarthy Professor of English and National Awardee for Media criticism NMKRV, Bengaluru
He was delivering the keynote address at the “info FRAMES- 2015” a State Level Seminar and Short Film Festival organised by Director Educational Multimedia Research Centre jointly with Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, University of Mysore at the Rani Bahadur auditorium.

Speaking on the occasion he said that It is impossible to define the present media without analyzing what is happening around us. When we take a look at the history of media, religious institutions and political heads were the dominant section who represented communication. As the media started growing, the middle class also contributed in defining media through the public sphere. In fact it is swayed by the fascist forces.
Further he said that the contemporary media is surrounded by advertisements, documentaries and advertorials which has changed the aesthetics of media, especially the visual media. The picture, and statistics which are presented need not be true, it might be manipulative. In the world of TRP’s, competitive manipulation is very much possible. It is actually critical. A political power can rule and unilaterally determine the society. This excessive sedation is a threat to media and the situation has so happened that to hinder a community you need not kill anybody. The word censor is a powerful tool. We need to nurture and cater to the needs of civil society and the political society and in our political situation it so happens whatever is done as pro people, they turn around and call it undemocratic.
Speaking on the same he said that Middle class which is on the look out for opportunities in the present scenario plays a key role today. The Media Middle class and the civil society are today emerging as the political society. However, it is very important to note that political society is driven by corporate world and has stuck up with forming nexus with MNC’s. It ultimately reveals that the society is regulated by the corporate world.
