Mysuru: The countdown to the New Year 2015, has begun and celebratory plans are underway in every household and commercial establishment around the country.
Mysuru likewise, has a grand cultural event lined up for the year end change over. A theatre group called Niranthara foundation from Mysuru, are organizing a National level theatre festival, ‘Ranga Utsav’ from Dec 30th 2014 to 3rd Jan 2015.

‘Ranga Utsav’ will involve dance performances, a musical concert and several Indian language plays – Shivarathri, a kannada language play ,Ashad ki ek din, a Marathi language play, a famous sufi singer Mukthiyar Ali’s sufi performance, and Prathima, a Malayalam language play and Kudalasangma a dance performance based on Basavanna’s vachanas) Art exhibition, workshop on theatre criticism and Indian folk performance.
Niranthara Ranga Utsav
Theatre plays an important place in the cultural arena of India. Being an expression of peoples joy, sorrow, and inner voice, theatre constructs a bridge betweenRthe inner sense of man and his outer sense. Hence theatre is an extension of possibilities of man. ‘Niranthara ranga Utsav’ tries to become this extension of possibilities.
This is a national festival, a little contribution to Kannada theatre from Niranthara. This festival will try to understand the expression and dynamics of different regional theatre movements of India. Directors, playwrights, actors and theatre enthusiasts from across Karnataka and other parts of India will gather at Mysuru and use this opportunity to share their experiences, ideas and expressions for 5 days . The ‘Ranga Utsav’ will attempt to become the collective expression of Indian people.
5days art exhibition
Theatre is an inclusive art evolved from various art forms. It has attracted many artists and painters who became theatre practitioners. Consequently, the event will include a 5 days art exhibition, ‘Canvas’ which will exhibit paintings of great artists’ of national and international fame revealing their best.
Performance of folk forms
Folklore and Folk traditions have help shape human art forms This festival will witness the vibrancy of such folk forms from around India, during its inaugural and valedictory ceremonies.
Workshop on theatre criticism
The festival will also include a two day workshop on theatre criticism, to bring out the various dimensions of the plays staged at the festival, and give them new possibilities. Theatre stalwarts, intellectuals and young enthusiasts are expected to participate in the workshop.
