Mysuru: The Bharat Scouts and Guides in association with the International Youth Fellowship (IYF) from South Korea as part of National Jamboree for Scouts and Guides conducted the National Education Leaders’ Meet at Adakanahalli Industrial Area here on Monday. IYF helps people to take up right steps to build healthy nation.

IYF, through its various worldwide events and unique personality education programmes, has been changing the youth around the globe and receiving the attention and support of governments of many countries and their leading educators. In 2013, IYF founded the World Education Leaders Forum (WELF), an open convention of mutual interchange among presidents of numerous universities, for a new change in higher education, by building a network of international cooperative exchange. The National Educational Leaders Meet aims to bring together educational leaders and intellectuals from all over India on a common platform to discuss the need for incorporation of character education into contemporary curriculum and also to introduce the concept of Mind Education which is a recent science. The purpose of the meet is to approach advancement in college education, to promote and foster talented individuals with proper values and upright character, share experiences of training outstanding individuals at colleges around the world and their successful educational programme after effects, pursue mutual development among colleges and build a network of international cooperative exchange.

Kim Jae Hong, General Secretary, IYF Education said, “Mind education is the same as blue print of a building, depending on how you draw blue print the structure of a building will change. The mindset of the people is just the same. Depending on what kind of mindset you have, your life will change. The people who have wrong mindset tend to be unsuccessful. Here we do the work of positively changing the wrong mindset of youth so that the way they live changes and their entire life changes. And they start to lead a successful life also for the betterment of other people. Hence mind education is the need of the hour. From 1996 we started this programme and we have a good response now. In South Korea we have passed an act asking to include ‘mindset’ as a mandatory subject in school. For the first time we were invited for Jamboree and also for the first time we are conducting such meet in Karnataka. After coming here, people from Benglauru have requested us to conduct a similar programme in Bengaluru.”

Shivaramegowda, Block Education Officer, Mysuru South, said, “The programme was very innovative and interesting. The main focus is to enlighten youth and motivate them to take the right steps.” Educationists including K Anand, Director of Primary Education, DDPIs from various district and Block Education Officers attended the meet which went on for nearly two hours.

Degree student temporarily quits education to volunteer at IYF:

Kamonchanok Kertphol, a 21-year-old from Thailand temporarily discontinued her studies to serve as a volunteer for the organisation. Kamonchanok was studying second year degree when she came to know of the organisation’s initiative. “The Centre came to our university and said that they would help us in overcoming our difficulties. After speaking to the volunteers, I decided to discontinue my education for a year to overcome my difficulties and also to learn how to control myself. Apart from this, I am very much interested in learning new cultures and languages. The Centre is spread in 92 countries. Really, if I work as volunteer for one year I am going to learn all these things”.

From gangster to Director of the Branch:

Thomas Henderson, IYF Karnataka State Director, during his college days was a gangster in Georgia. He used to roam with a gun. People used to tell him to change but they couldn’t tell him how to. “It was IYF which enabled me to change my attitude. “If we have control on our heart, definitely we can change. That’s what happened in my case,” added Thomas.
