Mysuru: The nation-wide bandh evoked lukewarm response in Mysuruas shops and private offices remained largely unaffected by the same.
Trade unions of Mysuru, including employees of public sector banks, telecom, insurance and employees of other sectors, extended their support to the bandh called by trade unions against anti-labour policies of the central government. Employees of various factories, banks, telecom and other public sector units went on strike and opposed the government’s proposal of hiking minimum wage for unskilled workers and demanded social security for workers and a minimum wage of not less than Rs 18,000 per month. They also urged to remove the foreign direct investment (FDI) from defence, railways and many other strategic sectors.
Members of various associations including All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Trade Union centre of India (TUCI) and other association members staged protest near Gandhi square. Later, the agitators took part in the rally raising slogans against the central government’s anti-labour policy. All public sector banks were shut down and almost all major factories, insurance companies, telecom services, employees from transport, mining, defence and others sectors too extended their support .
The service of KSRTC buses were not much affected. Though buses were not like on regular basis but still there were buses plying to different places. Other modes of public transport such as autorickshaws, cabs plied normally. Police personnel were deployed across the city to monitor the situation and prevent any untoward incidents in major places and no agitators were allowed to protest near the KR Circle since it is declared a no-protest zone.
As part of the bandh, almost all schools and colleges across the district were closed as Deputy Commissioner Randeep had issued a notice to all educational institutes to declare holiday. Shops, trading units, educational institutions, theatres, hotels and other business establishments functioned as usual.
