Mysuru: Following the collapse of a part of the fort of Mysuru Palace, Mysuru Palace Board has taken up the repair works.
According to Deputy Director of Mysuru Palace Board Subramanya, “The repair works of a 50-metre-long fort including the collapsed 20 metres near Bisilu Maramma Temple in the palace precincts, has been taken up. A contractor has been issued the work order as per the tender awarded in e procurement.”
Subramanya has also clarified that it has been a tradition in practice to rehearse for cannon firing during Dasara at the parking lot near Bisilu Maramma temple. As the fort wall is old, it had developed cracks due to the sound of cannon firing and rainfall. The main building of the Palace and also the temples on the premises are very old.
Palace Board requested the Police Commissioner Dr. Chandra Gupta to shift the place of rehearsal of cannon firing to other places. However, due to the heavy downpour, the fort wall near Bisilu Maramma Temple collapsed.
