Mysuru: Mysuru will become a hunger free district by November 1, said District In-charge Minister H C Mahadevappa.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s home district Mysuru has taken up a pilot project aimed at fine-tuning the Anna Bhagya scheme, mainly by extending the ration cards to the eligible beneficiaries and see that the district is hunger free by November 1. Owing to lack of documents or inability to seed the ration card with Aadhar number, many are facing problems to get food grains under public distribution system (PDS). Hence keeping this in mind, the Department of Food and Civil Supplies, on an experimental basis conducted Anna Bhagya Ananthayatre campaign at Haralikatte Haadi, a tribal hamlet in H D Kote taluk here on Friday.

The district administration led by H C Mahadevappa, Deputy Commissioner D Randeep and Senior Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies Rameshwarappa visited Haralikatte Haadi where there are 33 families without proper ration card.

Among 33 families, 15 of them are having BPL cards while rest of them are not having them. Through this campaign the authorities will be going to the door steps of the people to check whether they are having BPL cards or not. If they don’t have BPL cards, the authorities will make them apply for the card on the spot and try to issue the same within a week. As part of the campaign, with the help of food and civil supply authorities, 9 of them applied for BPL cards. Apart from this, they were also provided caste and income certificates by the authorities. As these people were not having proper shelter, Mahadevappa also presented title deeds to 40 of them. Nirmithi Kendra will be constructing 40 houses, each measuring 20ft/14ft for these tribals.

Javaramma, a tribal woman said, “We are in this hamlet for the past nearly 20 years and were facing a lot of problems. We didn’t have any documents to get the much needed ration card. I want to thank district administration for coming here to provide us ration cards. Apart from this, they will be constructing houses for all of our family members.”

H C Mahadevappa not only distributed the ration cards, caste certificate, income certificate and title deed to the beneficiaries but also briefed them about the importance and values of the above said certificates. “The hamlet in which they are staying at present is in worst condition. Even animals can’t survive in that hamlet. If one needs to enter inside, one needs to completely bend and go and it’s really difficult to survive as there is no proper ventilation. Hence after going through their condition we have decided to construct 40 houses for them”, added Mahadevappa.

From July 4, the campaign will start, be up in three phases and will be completed in two to three months’ time.
