Mysuru: Due to widespread violation of helmet rule by two-wheeler riders including pillion, police has decided not only to penalise them, but also to seize their vehicles till the offenders start rectifying their mistake.

The same rule will be applicable for those plying in the city without valid insurance, which is mandatory under the Central Motor Vehicles Act-1988. The police will be acting stern on those without valid insurance by seizing the vehicle and releasing it only after the vehicle owners renew the insurance and produce the documents. Those talking over mobile while driving/ riding will also face the consequence.

Referring to a direction by the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety, the statement issued by the police stated that the driving licence of the errant motor vehicle drivers would be suspended if they are found talking over phone while driving/riding. Other traffic offences for which driving licenses will be suspended include drunk driving, jumping traffic signals and carrying more than the stipulated baggage and passengers.
