Mysore University centenary song released

Mysuru: Penned by poet C.P. Krishna Kumar and nine others, the centenary song of the University of Mysore was released by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at a function here on Sunday. Set to tune by music director Hamsalekha, it was rendered by his team of musicians and singers at the open-air auditorium.
mysore_universityThe song tries to capture the university’s growth through 100 years and is a tribute to its founder Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV and others who strived for the varsity’s growth and excellence over the years it is said.

CM Siddaramaiah expressed his happiness over the release of the centenary song and the start of the varsity’s centenary celebrations, which would be inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee on July 27. “In view of the university achieving an important milestone, the State released Rs. 50 crore in this years budget for the celebrations”, he said.

He then went on to speak about the increase in farmers’ suicide in the State in recent days and added that suicide was no solution to their problems. “I appeal to the farmers to desist from taking the extreme step and assure them that the government is with them to help resolve their problems,” he added

Following this, the poets who composed the song were felicitated. Mr. Siddaramaiah also released a series of articles on farmers written by journalist Amshi Prasanna Kumar on the occasion.
