Mysore: Exporters, especially small and medium entrepreneurs will soon be able to benefit from a dedicated export centre. There are about 40000 small, medicum and large scale industries in Mysore, Mandya, chamarajnagar Districts.
Mysore Industries’ Association general secretary Suresh Kumar Jain said they have the potential to achieve optimum growth by exporting industrial products and can be a bigger employment-generating sector than agriculture.
Mysore Industries’ Association, ever since its inception in 1993, has been is working for the betterment of industries in Mysore, Chamarajanagar and Mandya districts by providing information and assistance by organizing seminars and workshops, holding industrial exhibitions. They had proposed a dedicated facility under a central government scheme.
It is expected that the centre would come up on 2,019sqm area at a cost of Rs 8 crore. The built-up area of the four-storey structure will be 2,520sqm.Technical Consultancy Services Organization of Karnataka has prepared the project report and applied for Rs 6 crore grant. The rest of the amount would be borne by Mysore Industries’ Association and the state government equally.
Presently, the annual turnover of the export market in Mysore is nearly Rs 7,000 crore. “After the establishment of the export centre, we expect it to touch Rs 17,000 crore,” he added.
Traditional products like agarbatthi, handicrafts, Mysore Silk and Mysore Sandal oil, tyres and tubes, rubber, polymer, structural plywood boards, medical equipment, paints, mechanical, pharmaceuticals, paper, animal feed, adhesives, garments, fabrics, telecom products, granite, food products, software, flavours and essence, enzymes are some of the major products being exported from the Mysore region.
Chief minister Siddaramaiah will lay the foundation stone for the proposed structure here on June 28.
