About Toastmasters club

Toastmasters International is a world leader in communication and leadership development with about 292,000 strong membership spread across 14350 clubs in 122 countries. These members improve their speaking and leadership skills through their participation in these networks of clubs that make up the global network of meeting locations.  Membership to Toastmasters is one of the greatest investments one can make to one’s career as it is the most cost-effective skill-building tools available anywhere.

A Toastmasters meeting is a ‘learn-by-doing workshop’ in which participants hone their speaking and leadership skills in a no-pressure atmosphere. A typical group has 20 to 40 members who meet weekly, biweekly or monthly and lasts about 60–90 minutes.

There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting. Instead, members evaluate each other’s presentations. This feedback process is a key part of the program’s success. The participants also give impromptu talks on assigned topics, conduct meetings and develop skills related to timekeeping, grammar and parliamentary procedure.

Members learn communication skills by working in the Competent Communication manual- a series of 10 self-paced-speaking assignments designed to instill a basic foundation in public speaking.

Members acquire leadership skills by taking on various meeting roles and working by the Competent Leadership Manual. Toastmasters adopt learn-by-doing approach, and do not lecture members about leadership skills; instead they share responsibilities and mentor and then request the members to lead.

The Toastmasters program offers many benefits that help people in all walks of life. The results are increase in self-confidence, developing oneself as an improved speaker, and enhanced leadership and communication skills.
